In this episode of the Unperfected Pod, Brooke interviews Sybil Cummin, Sybil is a licensed professional counselor and clinical supervisor who has extensive experience working with survivors of these types of abuse. She shares with us how she got started in this niche and explains what narcissism and narcissistic abuse really look like.
Narcissist abuse is a particularly insidious form of domestic violence where the abuser seeks to gain and maintain power over their intimate partner and children. They may start with emotional abuse and gaslighting in order to make their victim doubt themselves.
Sybil recommends reconnecting with safe people, making a safety plan, accessing outside help from organizations such as domestic violence agencies or therapists, and educating oneself on what to expect when leaving. She discusses how it’s important for survivors to prioritize their safety above all else.

Tweetable Quotes:
“Know that you are not alone… So many people are going through this, and the more connected you can be and finding the people that understand what you're going through, that you don't have to defend yourself over and over and over, that can be one of the most healing things for you.” – Sybil Cummin
“I think the most important thing that you can do to help your babies is to give them the gift of perspective in your home. You are giving them unconditional love. You are setting some structure and some boundaries that are compassionate to you and allowing them to have a voice in their things.” - Sybil Cummin
