Newsom’s Proposed Committee to Crack Down on Big Oil Faces Big Questions 3/24/23

California Governor Gavin Newsom is pushing for the establishment of a new oversight authority to investigate whether price gouging is taking place in his state, as it relates to energy prices. This after California saw sky-high gas prices in 2022 as big oil company profits soared. But how much authority will this new committee have? Plus, attention is on Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen who attended a surprise closed-door meeting regarding bank volatility just ahead of the weekend.
