钵是梵文Pātra的音译，是出家人外出托缽乞食所需具備的食器。只是由於氣候、風俗習慣等差異，外出托缽已不是必然需要的事了。
但是吃缽飯的規矩、禮儀，還是有必要予以保存，以遵循佛陀教法而行的精神意義。
