Betty and Barney Hill's abduction goes down in history as the abduction story that changed everything regarding UFO intel in America. For the first time an UFO encounter had garnered major national attention and the government was taking an encounter as serious matter and not just some "crazy" made up story or misinterpreted sighting... this was way more than that and this couple was different. There had of course been numerous encounters prior, but Betty and Barney's story caused a rip in America's preconceptions of the other kind.
