The symbolism of white animals, especially dogs, seem to represent innocence in a world of chaos. Films like High Rise and The Cell emphasis this theory, of a white animal in the midst of horror and depravity that seems to either succumb to the destruction by no fault of their own, or become a liability to the main antagonist. Their main reason is to show a little light in the darkness, and to emphasise whether the protagonist can be saved.
