Edgar Witherspoon is an elderly man with a Rube Goldberg machine filling his apartment. His niece is concerned and arranges for a social worker to look in on him. It turns out that the machine is an allegory for the world. Edgar is constantly making modifications and additions to the machine to keep the world running right.
