EPISODE NOTES - How To Quit My Job (The Consequences Of Saying F%CK You):
· I get it… Sometimes, you get to a point where the best thing for you to do is quit your current job, but you don’t want to leave a mess behind you… Regardless if you hate your job/boss or not.
· Beware of the FU Boomerang Effect! (Sometimes the FU you give now can come back to FU in the future)
· 7 helpful ideas to consider before quitting your job…
· #1: Start with he future in mind… (Before you quit your job, take a second to think 3 – 15 years into the future. Imagine that you absolutely need your boss to vouch for you to land the job of your dreams in the future. Would could you do now to improve the odds of him/her being willing to vouch for you)
· #2: Make sure your next move is solid! (Never make the decision to quit based purely on emotion. You need to at least have your next move ready to go. Ideally, you want to already have another job teed up before you quit, or an already established business teed up.)
· #3: Create a smooth transition plan… (actually write down a plan for transitioning as smooth as possible so you won’t miss vital steps due to your emotion getting the best of you)
· #4: Make sure you provide adequate notice (2-3 weeks is customary)
· #5: Be sure to keep the door closed (in a super nice way) by consistently reshifting the focus to making sure this transition goes as smooth as possible. Don’t fall for the counter offer trap!
· #6: If possible… Don’t miss an opportunity to clearly demonstrate your technical value even during your transition out… Leave them with a memory of value, not just emotion.
· #7: Articulate your immense gratitude for the opportunity they gave you to work there
