✔️Recognize a toxic relationship. Heidi Brocke believes that the word “toxic” isn’t a diagnosis but an adjective to describe an unhealthy relationship - be it mentally, physically, or emotionally.
✔️ Catch the signs of a toxic relationship. They’re unpredictable and difficult to pinpoint. However, Heidi Brocke shares that it’s never too late to distinguish patterns of a toxic individual. The constant need to belittle and criticize is a glaring red flag.
✔️Keep your reactions in check. The toxic personality constantly looks for a reaction, whether it be tears, panic, or distress from the oppressed. The latter’s first instinct is always to spring into action to avoid conflict, like a dog fetching a stick.
✔️A toxic relationship is like walking into a stinky room. The longer you stay in a stinky room, the bad smell goes away. But that doesn’t always mean the smell is gone. The same principle applies to toxic relationships. The oppressed become desensitized to abuse because it happens daily.
✔️An emotionally abusive person uses the same playbook. Put yourself in an outsider’s perspective. Find out what motivates their behavior. You have the power and courage to analyze the situation and make educated decisions leading to your departure from the relationship.
✔️Use your voice. One loses so much of their esteem and identity when they’ve undergone a controlling and draining environment. Heidi Brocke and Wendy Sterling share the passion for empowering people to reclaim their autonomy and make decisions that align with their beliefs.
