Eric cuts right to the heart of the issue with a skeptical scalpel and doesn’t let up. No fluffy metaphorical language allowed, we want cold hard facts and crystal clear evidence. What is the Catholic Church’s take on magic? Well, officially, participants of the religion would probably deny it. But upon closer look, this caller says their study of world religions has led them to believe Catholicism is based on a magical structure. Vi agrees, and recommends the book Religion and the Decline of Magic by Keith Thomas for a closer look at how the Church embraced magic in the Middle Ages.

Eric wants to graph this out, and Vi is tickled at the idea of using apologetics against apologists.

Why even is the universe? Eric and Vi talk with a caller who asks what the point of existence is if suffering will always outweigh pleasure? Vi gets really excited about the philosophical implications of this line of thought, but Eric pushes back with some good points about how some suffering actually increases one’s appreciation for pleasurable things.
