The National Assembly has approved the Expropriation Bill as amended by the National Council of Provinces, by 205 votes to 108. Although not yet signed into law, the bill would allow for, in certain instances, 'nil compensation.' Head of Policy Reseach at the Institute of Race Relations, Dr Anthea Jeffrey has however sounded the alarm on the Bill insisting that the bill's provisions are at odds with the common law and pose a great risk to the country's economic well being.
