The prayer language of tongues provides a suprarational way to relate to God that goes beyond the limitations of the human mind and vocabulary – it is a form of divine assistance to help us pray what we really need to pray. This sermon is an exposition of much of 1 Corinthians 14 and we discover principles such as tongues being god-ward, not human-ward, in direction; tongues being valuable for strengthening our inner spiritual person; and tongues not being an ecstatic or frenzied state but something that is under the control of the speaker. We also learn how to cooperate with the Holy Spirit when it comes to exercising this beautiful and powerful spiritual language.
