Welcome to episode #168! This week, Matt and Braden talk with Brad and Lisa Valencia about how to have great sex in your marriage.
Get your priorities right.
Starting with building your relationship with Christ and being rooted and grounding in it and then working on your marriage outside the bedroom is how you begin to build a great sex life. Intimacy should be in every area and then sex is an overflow of something you’ve been working on all day long, throughout your life. Not just loving each other and flirting, but also includes dealing with things like shame. Allow God into all areas of your life and lay any shame at his feet so he can restore you. Pursuing your spouse and helping them feel wanted will help to bring healing to your life - including your sex life. Great sex in your marriage starts outside of the bedroom.
Make room to connect with each other.
Date your spouse - can be big and extravagant, or simply just spending intentional time together. A time where no one else is involved and try to get out of the home. Be willing to invest (financially and timewise) in this area of your relationship and break out of the normal routine with each other. Create opportunities for adventure - to laugh and have fun together. Laughing and flirting together is so powerful. Side by side connection while your walking is important - not just sitting across face to face to have deep conversations. You will learn your spouse better and have a deeper connection through those conversations.
You cannot be self seeking.
You need to embrace this mindset in every area of life and it will roll over into the bedroom. Look at your lens of how can you serve your spouse and your kids; how can you serve Christ? It is what we are called to do; we are called to model a servant attitude. This mindset will also roll over into the bedroom. It will be fulfilling for both of you in a deep, intimate way.
