Dr. Norman Gevitz currently serves as senior vice president of Academic Affairs at A. T. Still University. His osteopathic journey started at the University of Chicago, where he studied sociology. Interested in writing his thesis on "occupational role duplication," he spoke to an MD friend about different professions. When the topic of osteopathic medicine came up, he became intrigued. This work ultimately led to his landmark book, "The DO's: Osteopathic Medicine in America," which documents the evolution of osteopathic medicine from its founder, the "Lightning Bone Setter," to its comprehensive range of practice today. He speaks about the benefits of osteopathy and the challenges the profession may face in the future.
