Fortitude and resilience seem to be words of a forgotten Ethos, a long-ago kingdom. Resilience is defined as the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties, the ability of a substance, or object to spring back into shape. Resilience is the ability to cope with and recover from setbacks. Does that sound like anything you know? Like…Life? It has been said, “We cannot control what happens TO US. WE do, however, have absolute control over what happens in us. Today, Mr. Black will be joined by author and friend, Kate Hamberger to promote her new book, “Dances with Fire”. In Dances with Fire, Kate relates the specifics of such infamous fires as the Yellowstone Fires of ’88 and the Dude Fire of ’90. In this riveting memoir, Kate recounts the fires she and her crewmates worked to control while often calling upon their physical reserves to survive. With great honesty and eloquence, she also shares the experience of falling in love, and the missteps made when you realize life has only prepared you for so much. She credits her faith with getting her through times of fear, loneliness, and uncertainty as she becomes a veteran firefighter herself. Today’s listeners will learn how to grow, and it is always, OUTSIDE, our comfort zone!
