Getting a patent is meant to protect the patent holder's design for their product. A patent gives the holder an advantage over others who might want to use the same design to create their own products.

However, having a patent doesn't mean that it's impossible to infringe on someone else's patent. There are situations where your registered design could be similar to what someone else had already patented—and this could lead to lawsuits being filed against you.
