This week at The Film Club we’re kicking off April with a new theme: Film Noir! And this week we’re talking about one of the greatest film noir movies ever, The Maltese Falcon! The film follows private investigators Sam Spade and Miles Archer who have an investigating agency in San Francisco. One day the investigators are approached by a new client named Ruth Wonderly who is seeking their help to find her sister who ran away from her home in New York to go to San Francisco with a man named Floyd Thursby. Miles agrees to take on the case but unbeknownst to him later that evening he ends up murdered. The police call Sam to let him know his partner has been killed and immediately he’s a person of interest. Sam jumps into action to investigate Miles murder so that the police won’t falsely arrest him. Sam meets with Ruth to get her side of the story since Miles was helping her and that’s when she confesses her name isn’t Ruth it’s Brigid O’Shaughnessy and Floyd Thursby is her partner who she believes has taken advantage of her by stealing a bird like treasure and also she believes he killed Miles Archer. Join us as we dive into the world of The Maltese Falcon.
