In 1980, the median priced home in the United States was equivalent to 3 years of the median annual salary. In 2023, this had risen to 6 years - an effective doubling of real home prices. Despite attempts at lowering interest rates in the past year, wages have not kept up with housing costs, and many Americans are struggling to buy their first home, with almost 20% of Millennials living with their parents today, up from around 10% for young adults in the 1970s. Tonight, returning guest Stormy Waters joins us to discuss how America's local, state, and national economic policies are deeply tied to the real estate industry, and how reforming this for the better will likely take a cultural and political groundswell from younger generations.
