FROM WATER TO FIRE: Why John the Baptist Was a Necessary Precursor.

In this session, we focused on the truth that John the Baptist told us that he baptized with water, but Jesus was coming to baptize in the Holy Spirit and in fire (John 3:11). The Holy Spirit goes alongside with fire. Why does baptism go with fire? Because fire consumes fire when it moves, when it's at work, nothing stands in its way. It just goes on consuming. And the Bible says the Lord is a consuming fire. Therefore, the baptism of Jesus entails the Holy Spirit baptizing us with the attribute of God that makes us just keep going and making things happen. Christ Jesus baptizes with the Holy Spirit and with fire. If you say you are baptized by Jesus and you are still staying calm about Jesus, you have not yet been baptized because no one keeps calm in the presence of fire. You can't keep calm again about Jesus. You shout it on the mountaintops, on the rooftops. You just can't keep calm about Jesus. If John the Baptist did not baptize, it would have been difficult to make us believe and understand that there is something called the baptism of Jesus. John's baptism was just like the Old Testament, everything was a pointer to the New Testament. John the Baptist's baptism was a pointer to make us know that there is something real - the Baptism of Christ Jesus.
