Episode 157: Seven Samurai (1954)

This week at The Film Club we’re talking about one of the most influential films of all time, Seven Samurai. The film takes place in 1586 in a farming village that is struggling to survive because of relentless attacks from bandits. The bandits threaten to destroy the village when the next harvest arrives, which leads the villagers into having to ask the samurai for help saving their village. This daunting task of asking for help is a struggle with many rejections but when an elder ronin comes into town he decides to take this scared farm community under his wing and begins assembling a team of talented samurai. Our ronin Kambei assembles a team of seven unique samurai and helps prepare the farmers and the village itself for the upcoming war with the bandits.
