With November being national career development month, Lucy is joined by Registered Dietitian Estelle Kearney to discuss how student dietitians can develop skills and gain experience alongside their degree. Estelle is a registered dietitian specialising in gastroenterology, colorectal surgery, and critical care. Having graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in Dietetics from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, she now lives in Manchester and works full time in an acute hospital. Her current clinical role involves supporting patients with complex nutritional needs, including enteral and Parenteral nutrition. Estelle is an active member of the BDA and has engaged in many volunteering roles outside of her NHS job. She is passionate about myth busting nutrition misinformation online and uses her social media platforms to share educational posts and evidence based nutrition information.In this episode, Estelle will share her experiences of transitioning from student dietitian to a specialist acute dietitian. We will also discuss how student dietitians can expand their skillsets and what experiences are beneficial to have when they qualify.
