In week 5 of our Lent series on the seven “I Am”s of Jesus, we dive into Jesus being the vine. Focusing on John 15:1-11, Ps. Andre shares that because Jesus is the true vine, we now have direct access to God through abiding in Jesus. To abide is to make your home in something or somewhere. When Jesus calls us to abide in Him, He is saying to us to make our home in Him, as He makes His home in us.
Just like a branch draws life from a vine, as we remain in Jesus, we draw life from Him and are shaped into His likeness. And just as a gardener prunes the branches that bear fruit so that it can be even more fruitful, we face seasons of trials and tribulations that test our faith to purify and prepare us to receive more of what God has promised us.
As we learn to continually abide in the true vine and root our lives in Him, we pray that we would not rush through life, strive to prove ourselves or shy away from suffering, but to recognise that we are already loved and chosen by God, and that our joy is complete in Him.
