- “I had to leave my marriage to understand that I had no idea how to look after myself. No idea. So when I heard self care, I was like, ‘Well, I had a bath, that's fine.’ But I didn't understand self care at all.”
- “I understood ‘selfishness' to be making decisions that were about me. And that [was] a negative thing. You're very selfish for whatever it happens to be. And when you think like that, and other people say something like that, it's almost like it's glued with superglue to the word guilt. Guilt is not good. It's not a good emotion.”
- “But nearly every day, a different friend called in to help me with stuff. I remember probably about two months into my broken ankle, suddenly thinking, ‘I feel connected to my world for the first time in a way that I never did before.’ Because I couldn't do anything for myself; I couldn’t be independent. I needed other people to help; I had to ask and I had to receive. It’s very easy to give, but it’s a very different ballgame when you're on the receiving end and you need to ask. But [once] I learned how to do that my defenses came down.”

As I learn and grow, I teach them and show them. Who knows where they'll go in their future, where their children will go in the future?”

Claire moved to Galway when she was eight and spent her childhood there, but also attended boarding school in Dublin. After attending nursing school, she was a nurse for a while, and then married, had a family, and has been living in the North Node for around 26 years. After a divorce, she reinvented herself as a coach to help others through their own break-ups on their journeys of re-discovery.
