#5: Boys Are Uninspired

What inspires boys? It may surprise you! Competition. Tackling something meaningful—and succeeding…or even failing and getting a chance to try harder!.

Truth is, the ways boys are built, something must be at stake or they quickly lose interest.

If there is no risk, if nobody keeps score and everyone wins—why should boys compete? Or even try at all? 

They have a built-in gyroscope that leads them to find environments that provide a challenge. If we don’t provide opportunity, where does it lead them? Straight to video games. Keeping score, achieving higher levels, failing and succeeding… this is where boys feel at home.

Let’s steal a page from the video game designer book, but let’s inspire our boys with real-life challenges. 

And let them keep score. Newsflash: They are doing it anyway!
