Matthew Szydagis - First Dark Matter Search Results From LZ

Is the race to detect Dark Matter almost over? Dr. Matthew Szydagis reviews the first experimental search results for Dark Matter from the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) detector and explains how physicists around the world are competing to detect new exotic particles and solve one of physics biggest mysteries. Matthew received his B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2005, 2006 and 2011 respectively, then continued his work in physics as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California Davis (2010-2014). He is an Associate Professor with tenure at the University at Albany Department of Physics, pursuing experimental particle astrophysics, in particular the direct laboratory detection of dark matter and general detector development for “rare event” searches.
