Julie, Portugal’s last circus elephant, begins retirement at the Pangeia Elephant Sanctuary after Portugal’s wild-animal circus ban took full effect in 2024; the sanctuary aims to eventually house about 35 elephants and expects Kariba to join later this year. Viral Seattle raccoon Jimothy inspired artist Ryan Henry Ward to auction a painting for $6,543.21 and donate 100% to Ballard Food Bank. In Salzburg, over 200 Mozart statuettes were stolen from a 320-piece display. In Ohio, a truck overturned and spilled thousands of pickles, closing Route 316; the driver wasn’t injured.
