On Thursday, October 14, Alex Murdaugh was arrested on two felony charges related to the Gloria Satterfield Case. Those charges of obtaining property by false pretenses, each carrying up to 10 years in prison.
In episode 13 of The Murdaugh Murders Podcast, Investigative Journalist Mandy Matney speaks with Satterfield family attorney Eric Bland about what the charges mean for his clients — the victims — and what is next for Alex Murdaugh. Will he be able to get out of this?
The charges stem from a $3.5 million settlement for Gloria Satterfield's death, which Murdaugh allegedly misappropriated. Eric Bland, representing Satterfield's sons, expressed relief but criticized the limited initial charges.
Bland believes more federal charges, including mail fraud and money laundering, will be filed. The new developments also suggest Murdaugh's law firm and associates may know more than they are letting on. A bond hearing for Murdaugh is scheduled for October 19 in Richland County, where he may face stricter conditions.
