Kaley Mayer is the Community Resource Specialist at Epilepsy Alliance Florida. On this episode, Tony talks to Kaley about her journey from clinical setting to community work. She joins us today to provide us with information about Epilepsy and a window into what it’s like for people who live with epilepsy and those who care for them. Epilepsy touches millions of people, just in Florida alone. It’s a condition with unclear treatments and those who are diagnosed, live with the unknown on a daily basis. Kaley talks about the courage embodied by those who have epilepsy, to lean into the uncertainty of not knowing when they might have an episode but continue to work and live their life despite it.
Epilepsy Alliance Florida is dedicated to supporting those impacted by epilepsy by confronting the spectrum of challenges created by seizures. Established in 1971 as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3), Epilepsy Alliance Florida (EAF) is the principal agency for epilepsy programs and services sponsored by the State of Florida, servicing over half a million Floridians who live with the condition. For most of our history we were known as Epilepsy Foundation of Florida but in July 2018 we formally changed our name as we co –founded Epilepsy Alliance America, a nation-wide network of community-based epilepsy organizations. EAF also serves as the lead advocate for the rights and needs of people with epilepsy and seizures at the local, county, state and national level.
