Emotional labor may or may not be a new term for you. 
Although it's recently taken on a different meaning, it's original intention is when we regulate or suppress our emotions at our job. Not as a choice we necessarily make but instead as an expectation coming as rules or regulations being put on us to appease the "customer" (client, general public, contractor, etc).
