You Can’t Quick-Fix Leadership

You can’t quick fix leadership, but here’s how your magic can help. 

 

A business leader recently asked me, “What do I do? I keep explaining to one of my team members how a task should be done, but they’re doing it another way, which I know is ineffective. I don’t know what to do. Help!” 

 

I could tell this person wanted an easy answer or a traditional thought process, like if there is a structure for accountability, but there was more to it than that. 

 

In their case, company culture and brand values needed to be established. This is important when working with team members because you can always tie explanations back to them and demonstrate, “We do it this way because…”

 

It’s also important to receive buy-in from incoming team members. Ask them if they care about these company values and are aligned with them.

 

The six Sourced magics are ways our inner knowing works; when you know yours, it can be helpful when working with a team.

 

In this situation, if someone continues to do something one way but my magic is firing at me with another idea, in our Sourced company values, I can “Call Magic.” My team knows we can say, “ My magic is firing right now, and I know this is how it will work.” At Sourced, we have normalized this in our company culture. 

 

If someone just knows that they know, we honor that. If something continues, I will ask my team member: “This is what my magic is saying; tell me what’s going on for you.” This brings a different depth of conversation. That will take it from the mind-knowing “I do it this way, you do it that way” to “This is what feels resonant for me as a leader and the team as a collective.” 

 

Ultimately, however, I need to resonate with it as the leader. If their idea is better or if their magic is firing, by all means, Call Magic!
