In the early morning hours of February 25, 1942, the sky above Los Angeles came alive. Residents rushed outside to see what looked like an enemy invasion. Spotlights lit up the sky, and anti-aircraft guns opened. But by the next morning, there was no evidence that anything had ever flown over the city.
