Around 2480 BCE, Khufu died. The throne passed to his two eldest sons: the short-lived Djed-ef-Re, and then Khafre ("He Appears Like Re"). Khafre ruled long and well, and in his reign the grand monument we know as the Great Sphinx was constructed...
