Episode 150: The Artist (2011)

This week at The Film Club we’re talking about our first silent film on the podcast, The Artist. The film tells the story of the beautiful Hollywoodland days and the shining star that is George Valentin who is an action star in silent pictures. During the premiere of his latest film he accidentally meets an aspiring actress named Peppy Miller who is so charming and captivating she inadvertently captivates George. While Peppy is moving through the ranks of becoming an actress, George sees his status start to change when the invention of talkies changes the game and he’s not willing to accept this new reality. George’s world begins to fall apart while Peppy becomes America’s sweetheart, she tries to help George anyway she can before he loses everything. Can George make a Hollywood comeback? Or will he leave the big screen for good? Join us as we dive into the world of The Artist.
