Episode 78: Olympia Dukakis - ”Moonstruck” (1987)

"Moonstruck" is one of 10 movies to receive Oscars for both Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, and deservedly so for Cher as the lovestruck Loretta and the late, great Olympia Dukakis as her mother Rose. We also get a classic Assistant to the BSA in Julie Bovasso as the delightfully nuanced Rita, a perfectly charming/smarmy John Mahoney, that amazing climactic set piece over oatmeal, Olympia's quintessential "when she won it" moment, Vincent Gardenia's punim, a very wolfy Nicholas Cage, and the sheer star power of Cher, with that mane of hair and her oddly familiar speckled pea coat.
