Rewind: Area 51, S4, and the Rise of Bob Lazar

This July, we’re revisiting five classic topics in our Conspiracy Theories: Rewind series! Its existence and location were not formally acknowledged by the government in 2013. But “Area 51” – so named for its map designation, as part of the Nevada Test Site – has been shrouded in secrecy since it was established in 1955. From black-budget spy planes, to moon landing conspiracies, to Bob Lazar’s claims of what goes on at the fabled S4 facility nearby, Area 51 was on the public’s radar long before it was officially on the map.
