If you were hoping for some stable predictability in the markets, well, 2024 might not be your year. Sree Kochugovindan, senior research economist at abrdn, has been watching the recent blast higher in volatility. 

She sat down with Carl recently and discussed how interest rate decisions from the world’s big central banks (especially in the US and Japan) have driven a lot of the market’s swings. But, she noted that other things are playing a role, too, and with the US presidential election just a few months away, things are likely to remain tumultuous for a while yet.
