Lisa was diagnosed with anorexia at age sixteen and began following an unhealthy form of intermittent fasting around the same time. She continued this until college. But once she began eating normally again, she could not stop. Her anorexia then turned to bulimia, and as a result, Lisa gained 20 pounds. She feels that her disordered eating was directly connected to her Bipolar Disorder. Bipolar Disorder is "a disorder associated with episodes of mood swings ranging from depressive lows to manic highs." Once properly diagnosed, medicated, and in therapy, Lisa felt she could reclaim her life. She finally had hope.
Lisa and her husband are long distance runners and found IF through their running community. She began with keto, then transitioned to a less restrictive low carb approach coupled with IF. She follows OMAD (One Meal a Day). The health benefits Lisa has experienced are numerous! She has seen a huge reduction of inflammation, and both her chronic headaches and plantar fasciitis are gone. She is less anxious, and her recovery time from long runs has markedly improved. Lisa has gone from 160 pounds to 115 pounds, and is now at a healthy weight.
The advice she'd give to new IFers: "Ease into IF. Begin with 16:8. Skip breakfast. Stop comparing yourself. Everyone is individual. IF is like a muscle. You have to train it. Don't think of IF as a punishment, think of it as a gift."
