At Peace With Myself

There are four primary relationships for each of us in this life: with God, with others, with ourselves, and with creation. And within each of those relationships, we find the Biblical principle of portion at work. A portion is something that is given, assigned, dictated. This principle makes us uncomfortable, especially here in America, because we want to think and believe that our free will is all encompassing and omni present in every aspect of our lives…but it is not! In tonight's message we will look at the parable of the talents found in Matthew 25 and see how the principle of portion is central to this teaching by Jesus. Then, let’s examine this principle as it relates to our own lives, especially the parts of our lives that describe as being “unchangeables.” We will never be at peace with ourselves until we are ready to embrace our portion of unchangeables. When we are honest with ourselves and others, we all have some unchangeables we resent or would prefer to change. So tonight you will learn how to pray a Genesis prayer over each of the unchangeables that are a struggle for you, leading you into a place of self-acceptance and out of a place of self-loathing. The promise of Shalom is for all of us. This deep rooted sense of well being and goodness that is anchored in Jesus is within reach! And being at peace with yourself is vital if Shalom is going to be an immovable center for you as it most certainly was for Jesus during His earthly ministry.
