Synanon, a cult founded by Alcoholics Anonymous fanatic Charles Dederich, started as a misguided substance addiction program. It soon gripped the money, freedom, and lives of hundreds, conducted abusive attack “therapy sessions” and grew to allegedly attempt and succeed to murder those that opposed them.
