Everyone wants to talk Estuary. John Van Donk has been here from the beginning with this. He's got questions and is demanding answers. I do my best.

About the host
What sort of leadership is necessary or helpful? (aware of, and comfortable with, protocol)
In pvk’s estuary PVK himself embodies the connection between church and estuary…
Not so in Chino…
What if the senior pastor sees his role as the protector of the walled garden? What must he do to empower the host of the local estuary?
Not every congregation has a John Vandonk
Is some form of credibility within the local church necessary? Helpful?
About the Estuary protocol
Mutual respect
Openness
Ability to listen
Willingness to first fully understand before “judging” or critiquing
e.g. Ryan Bennett
When you pursue truth instead of power, you are in the IDW.
When you favor understanding over judgment, you are in the IDW.
When you value ideas more than identity, you are in the IDW.
Can the protocol (see below), inherent in, and necessary for, estuary, be taught? If so, how, where, and by whom?
Andrea with the Bangs complained that the guys at the IDW do not do a great job empowering the grassroots to carry the flag…
Is there a role for PVK here?
About the space/location
Is it important, or even necessary, for the estuary space to be associated with a local church? Any church?
pvk “Every church should have an estuary”
jvd “Every church “can” have an estuary?
How might location influence participation, and/or behavior?
I am thinking about changing location from clubhouse to church campus…
Why?
Why not?
If an estuary does not flow forth from a local church, can it still be an estuary? Can an estuary flow forth from a mosque? From a Buddhist temple? From a local secular humanist society?
About how damming the estuaries was a uniquely Dutch invention. Which turned out to be problematic.
About another Dutch invention: Baggeren (dredging). Our mutual friend Job is from Sliedrecht, the dredging capital of the world.
Opening the waterways in the estuary so traffic, both of water and of ships, is made easier.
What can be done to make it easier for people within the church to discover the estuary?
What can be done for people outside the church to discover the estuary?
PR, Marketing, promotion...
However, c.f also John McPhee The Control of Nature, especially chapter 1 “Atchafalaya”. (Job almost killed the entire estuary enterprise before it even started, by bringing “baggertjes”)
