Jesus takes sin seriously because people matter to him.
One of the characteristics that is most opposed to love is indifference. Nowhere in the pages of scripture do we find a Jesus who is indifferent, but instead one who loves fiercely, not because he avoids the reality of hard things, but precisely because he warns and pleads about the reality of hard things.
