The scourge of needing different chargers for different devices may finally be coming to an end. European Parliament and European Council negotiators today reached an agreement that establishes a single charging solution for a range of electronic devices.
Under the new rules, consumers will no longer need different chargers and cables every time they purchase a new device. Instead they can use one single charger for all of their small and medium-sized portable electronic devices. By autumn 2024, there will be a common charging port for all mobile phones, tablets and cameras in the EU.
The European Parliament’s rapporteur on the deal was Alex Agius Saliba. He explained its implications for consumers and the environment.
