Continual pressure on the Egyptian authorities is the only solution to securing Ibrahim Halawa’s release. That’s the advice from the Sinn Fein MEP Lynn Boylan who’s campaigned to get Ibrahim out of prison. The young Irish citizen has been languishing in a jail in Cairo since his arrest there during demonstrations in 2013. Last night the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz highlighted Ibrahim’s case during an address to MEPs. Lynn Boylan says ongoing pressure on the Egyptian authorities led to the release of the Australian journalist Peter Greste and his colleagues. And she says the EU and Irish authorities need to apply similar tactics.
Out words: sustained pressure
