The Adventures of Sam Spade - The Sure Thing Caper

Five-dollar Frankie hires Sam to find and talk with "Gentle" Joe Higgins. It seems Frankie has put down 500 dollars down on a horse that was a "sure thing" at the racetrack, according to Higgins, a horse trainer previously barred from the track. Joe says the 500 is not enough, it will take 1500 dollars to pull off the deal. So Frankie brought in two others at 500 dollars each, Dinosaur Thorelli and Bones Molten. Joe received the money, and has not been heard from since. Frankie tracked Joe down to a rooming house at 241 Clark Street, but could not get past the landlady to have a talk with him.
