Morning Report 18 Feb 22: US sharemarkets fell sharply on Thursday

Investor concerns about rising geo-political risks and the potential economic impacts of central bank policy. Shares of chipmaker Nvidia slid 7.5% after its latest forecast failed to impress investors. Tesla shares fell 5.1% after moving toward the bottom of Consumer Reports’ latest annual auto brand rankings. Shares of lithium miner Albemarle plunged 19.9% after its profit forecast disappointed. But Walmart (+4.0%) topped expectations and reaffirmed guidance. The Dow Jones index closed down by 622 points or 1.8%, near session lows and its worst decline of 2022. And the S&P 500 index lost 2.1% with the Nasdaq index dropping 407 points or 2.9%.
