Morning Report 30 Jul 20: US sharemarkets rose on Wednesday

Congress continued to wrangle over a US$1 trillion support package for jobseekers. But comments from the Fed chair soothed investor nerves. Shares in Advanced Micro Devices rose by 12.5% after the chipmaker raised its full-year revenue forecast. Economic data was supportive for investor sentiment. The Dow Jones index rose by 160 points or 0.6%. The S&P500 index gained 1.2%. And the Nasdaq index lifted by 141 points or 1.4%.
