Shoppers are better informed about food and want change – that’s according to Maria Walsh. The European Parliament has just backed a resolution calling for a new “farm to fork” strategy. MEPs want the EU to set standards that ensure food, including meat, is both environmentally and animal friendly. According to EU statistics, just 1.6 per cent of agricultural land in Ireland is organically farmed. That compares to more than 25 per cent in Austria. Speaking from a farm in the west of Ireland, Fine Gael MEP, Maria Walsh, says food should be both good and affordable.
