Intro  

Sensei Jan Stockton, she is a 3rd degree black belt, and has been a leader in the martial arts for over 35 years.  

She is the founder of Great Start Karate and co-founder of Karate West in Washington state, one of the largest martial arts schools in the country. 

The Great Start Karate hosts in-person and virtual programs! Our programs are exclusively designed for kids ages 4 to 12. Our motivational black belt instructors will instill focus, discipline, confidence and respect, and more, all in a fun, welcoming environment. 

Jan has seen a positive impact in thousands of kids who discover the physical benefits of martial arts training, but more importantly, the character development they experience by learning valuable life skills. Jan’s two children started karate at a young age and went on to earn their black belts.  Now, grown adults, they attribute much of their success at college and their careers, to the discipline, focus and goal setting skills they learned early in life.
