Thousands of farmers will have to pay at least two thousand four hundred euro (€2400) every year for an environmental permit under new EU proposals. And they could be left waiting for months to get one.
That’s according to Fine Gael MEP Colm Markey.
The Midlands North-West MEP says European Commission proposals to update the Industrial Emissions Directive is a bureaucratic nightmare for Irish farmers that will do little to address environmental challenges.
Instead he argues, it will put individual farmers under public scrutiny and lead to serial objectors trying to frustrate the process.
