Live Like You’ll Live Forever: a life of thanksgiving. One of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the New World occurred in 1621, when the Plymouth colonists from England shared an autumn harvest feast with the Native American Wampanoag people. In 1863, during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November. In 1942, President Roosevelt solidified it as the last Thursday of every November. Though not a festival of the church calendar, Christians for generations have found it appropriate to gather for worship this week to give thanks to the LORD: our Creator, Redeemer, and Sanctifier.
