MEPs in the European Parliament’s biggest political group the EPP will vote this evening on the candidate they want to represent the group in next year’s European Parliament’s Presidential elections. The Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness is one of four candidates in the EPP race. They include a former EU Commissioner from Italy and a former Prime Minister from Slovenia. Ms McGuinness who is currently a Vice-President of the Parliament, is an MEP for the Midlands North West Constituency. The presidential elections will take place in January when the MEPs will vote on the selected candidates. The Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly says Ms McGuinness has a strong chance of winning this evening’s vote.
